Dick's Sporting Goods to Open in Daytona Beach

Dick's Sporting Goods, Oone of the nation's largest sporting goods retailers, based near Pittsburgh, is working to lease and expand the former Circuit City (closed in January) at International Speedway Square on U.S. 92 just east of Interstate 95. The company has submitted a site plan to enlarge the store at 2500 West International Speedway Blvd. The plaza includes Bed Bath & Beyond, Hair Cuttery, Michaels, Old Navy, PetCo, Shoe Carnival, Staples, Men's Wearhouse and Stein Mart.

Dick's Sporting Goods operates 409 full-line sporting and outdoor equipment stores in 40 states with 11 in Florida. The closest to Volusia and Flagler counties are in Jacksonville and Melbourne. The company also has 91 Golf Galaxy specialty stores with five in Florida, including Jacksonville and Orlando. Dick's will go head to head here with Sports Authority, at 1910 West International Speedway Blvd. in the Best Buy Plaza. Sports Authority has 450 stores in 45 states with 56 in Florida.

Dick's is a publicly traded company with net income of $38.9 million in the second quarter, down 2.5 percent from a year ago. Same store sales in the quarter were down 4.1 percent, but because of new store openings, overall sales rose 4 percent to $1.13 billion.

Daytona is growing and thriving. Consider relocation or a 2nd home investment while our prices are so low. Contact me to discuss our opportunities.
